Dreamworks’ Oscar-winning animated adventure. Shrek the ogre (voiced by Mike Myers) enjoys a life of blissful, muddy solitude in his private swamp, and he’s keen to keep it that way. Unfortunately, tranquillity is broken when a group of homeless fairy-tale creatures unexpectedly arrive on his doorstep, having been evicted from Lord Farquaard’s (John Lithgow) kingdom. Enraged by the invasion, Shrek sets off, along with unsolicited sidekick Donkey (Eddie Murphy), to demand the unwelcome visitors’ removal. However, Lord Farquaard has his mind on more important matters, namely marriage to the beautiful incarcerated Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz); but Farquaard would rather enlist the services of a knight than risk his life slaying the dragon that guards her. So Shrek agrees to rescue the princess, if Farquaard will restore peace to the swamp. Shrek’s reluctant quest takes him on an unexpected journey, teaching him that perhaps even an ugly ogre needs a reminder not to judge others by their appearance.
