Mike Myers’ grumpy green ogre is back for a second instalment of the tongue-in-cheek family animation, featuring a stellar voice cast including Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Julie Andrews and Antonio Banderas. Shrek (Myers) and Princess Fiona (Diaz) are happily enjoying marital bliss after tying the knot at the end of the first film. Their bliss is of a somewhat different flavour to conventional newly-weds, featuring earwax candles and creepy-crawlies for dinner, but they’re happy enough. Their idyll is interrupted when they’re invited by Fiona’s parents Lillian (Andrews) and Harold (John Cleese) to a grand ball to celebrate their marriage, so the ogres and Shrek’s faithful old companion Donkey (Murphy) travel to Fiona’s hometown of Far Far Away to attend. But all is not as it seems. It turns out Harold’s under orders from the menacing Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders) to get rid of Shrek so that her son, Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) can marry her instead. Families, eh? First play on Channel 4.
