Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

Alex the lion (Ben Stiller) returns with his animal friends in the second instalment of the family favourite Madagascar franchise. The film begins with a flashback to adorable young Alakay (Declan Swift) playing with his dad, alpha lion Zuba (Bernie Mac). Alakay wants to dance and play but Zuba, led by pressures from other lions in the pride, wants him to fight and act like an alpha male. Things suddenly take a turn for the worse and Alakay finds himself fleeing poachers by catching a ride in a cargo box, washing up in America. Alakay soon lands at the Central Park Zoo in New York City, where he becomes Alex the showlion and joins up with his new mates Marty (Chris Rock), Melman (David Schwimmer) and Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith). Back in the present, the animals – piloted by their trusty penguin friends – are attempting to return to NYC in a battered old plane after their adventures in Madagascar. But when they crash land in continental Africa, they find themselves linking back up with their roots, and there’s a shock in store for Alex when he learns that lions aren’t born to be performers after all… Also featuring the voices of Sacha Baron Cohen, Alec Baldwin and will.i.am. First play on Channel 4.
