An acclaimed animated adventure that draws its inspiration from the folklore surrounding Mexico’s colourful Day of the Dead celebrations. In the town of San Angel, two young men vie for the love of the mayor’s daughter, María Posada (voiced by Zoe Saldana): Manolo Sánchez (Diego Luna), who comes from a family of bullfighters, but would prefer to be a musician (which sits well with María’s love of animals); and Joaquín Mondragon (Channing Tatum), who aims to impress her with his bravery fighting bandits. The rivalry prompts the guardians of the dead – La Muerte (Kate del Castillo), the ruler of the joyous Land of the Remembered, and her frankly unpleasant husband Xibalba (Ron Perlman), ruler of the mournful Land of the Forgotten – to wager over which young man will win the woman’s heart. But Xibalba doesn’t play fair, and Manolo is forced to journey through both of their realms to prove his love for Maria. Directed by Jorge R Gutiérrez and co-produced by Guillermo del Toro. Network premiere.
